Woolacombe Sands Holiday Park

Holiday Park, Woolacombe

Director and Company Secretary: Naomi Richards

Actions to date:

• Only uses Vegeware food containers for takeaway food

• Only uses paper straws

• Switched to wooden cutlery used for takeaway food

• Switched to glass jars for condiments which are filled up in the kitchen

• The shop doesn’t stock any fruit and veg wrapped in plastic (except for strawberries, raspberries etc). Paper bags are used for customers to fill up and take away

• Woolacombe Sands have created a full page in their welcome booklet which is given to 8000 customers. This states support for the Plastic Free campaign and gives customers advice on how they can reduce their plastic consumption. This can be used as a template for other businesses in the area

• Encourages the use of tote bags, reusable bottles and coffee cups which are available for customers to buy

• Looking into composting food waste

• Very good, efficient system for recycling at the holiday park. All plastic, cans and cardboard is checked and recycled on site. Naomi has also just ordered some 3 way recycling bins to be placed throughout the site to make it easier for customers to use.

Working on:

• Reducing stock of plastic cold drinks bottles and increasing the amount of cans

• Purchased 10,000 paper bags to be used in the shop but does still currently have plastic bags
