Parkdean Estates, Ruda

Holiday park based in Croyde

Owner: Parkdean Resorts

Actions to date:

  • No single use carrier bags are given out. Tote bags and paper bags used in Onshore and Offshore shops. Paper bags in Fish and Chip shop.

  • All non Costa disposable coffee cups removed and replaced with Vegware. Unfortunately Costa brand still non-recyclable although Ruda are working on getting Costa to recycle them as per their national chain scheme.

  • All plastic soft drinks bottles are being replaced with either cans or glass alternatives with the exception at the moment of water. They are looking into a water replacement. This equates to approx 10,000 plastic bottles a year being removed from their business in Croyde.

  • Straws are only given out if requested, they are working on a suitable non-plastic alternative.

  • Beach Café will be using Vegware for all their takeaway food. From March 2018 the Fish and Chip shop will no longer use polystyrene and will change to cardboard and Vegware alternatives.

  • No plastic cutlery ever given out, wooden forks for takeaway food.

  • No single plastic condiment sachets used in the Beach Café or Coast restaurant. Using large dispensers instead. Looking into options for the Fish and Chip Shop.

  • Offers free water refills at their Coast restaurant, they are looking at the viability of a water fountain at the beach entrance.

  • Recycle all card, paper, cans, glass and plastic. Use Viridor for recycling. Looking into Costa recycling scheme.

  • Working with their supplier John Patts to ensure veg deliveries from them are not wrapped in plastic.

  • Have discontinued sales of some items in the surf shops which were over packaged, eg polystyrene adult bodyboard.

  • Cleaning products ordered in bulk and decanted into smaller reusable containers.

  • Leaflets give to all guests on arrival pointing out the location of recycling bins across the site.

  • Extra recycling points provided in staff areas and staff training pre-season to ensure all staff are aware of the importance of these policies.

Working on:

  • Making all 72 of their sites nationwide single-use Plastic Free
