Role: Ocean Explorer Outreach Ambassador
Reports to: Director of Operations
Date: June - October 2021
Hours: 20 hours worked across 7 day week
Wage: £19,760 pro rata
Job location: Based at Braunton Office but posted to various locations across North Devon which will differ each week.
Summary of Job:
The Ocean Explorer Outreach Ambassador will have an exciting role as the lead for our innovative education outreach project. Helping to coordinate and roll out the Ocean Explorer activity programme, the candidate will be a passionate individual who can engage and excite others with the project’s messaging.
Ideally the candidate will be able to show dedication to the cause and passion for the content of the programme through prior learning and/or employment/volunteering. They will also be an advocate for connecting an audience to the nature that surrounds us here in North Devon and have a desire to encourage others to help protect it.
The ideal candidate will be a motivated, confident, enthusiastic and engaging communicator ready and willing to engage and excite a variety of different people at various locations across northern Devon.
Job Role
Use the Ocean Explorer virtual reality kit and associated resources and activities to ENGAGE, INFORM, INSPIRE and EMPOWER residents and visitors into environmental action.
Assist in developing creative associated educational resources and activities
Safe transportation and setting up of outreach kit and activities to varying locations and groups across northern Devon.
Oversee day to day delivery of Ocean Explorer outreach experience to our surrounding community and engaging in educational and informative activities and talks to deliver messaging. .
Oversee and work alongside Ocean Explorer volunteers who will be supporting the project throughout the season
Report daily activities and oversee evaluation at end of the period
Essential requirements:
Must hold Full UK drivers licence and have access to vehicle to enable transportation of kit to various locations throughout the region
Must be able to demonstrate a good understanding of the environmental crisis we face locally, nationally and internationally.
Must be a clear and confident communicator with the ability to engage with people of different ages and backgrounds.
Must be punctual, well organised and reliable with the ability to take the initiative and be able to problem solve on location.
Associated qualifications and/or experience in the environmental conservation sector.
Passionate advocate for protecting and improving our environment.
Good understanding of what local and national environmental groups and campaigns currently in action.
Strong ability to adapt and respond to changing and unexpected circumstances
Confident in discussing and reinforcing our connection to nature and what we can do to protect it.
Desirable qualities
Biology/environmental bachelor's degree or equivalent
Local wildlife knowledge, particularly rockpools
Experience working with young people
Experience delivering programmes in both primary and secondary schools
