NCS Takeover
Meet Beth and Megan who are part of the local action group for the ‘National citizens service’ (NCS) who are taking over our social accounts on Saturday April 10th and wrote this blog to explain why...
What is NCS
NCS is a summer and beyond program for young people. We start with a 1-4 week program involving activities, life-skills and fundraising. After your program you are invited to join your LAG (Local Action Group) and continue fundraising/campaigning for that year's Social Action Day. Social Action Day is a Saturday in late April where NCSers from around the country do good for their communities.
Why are we collaborating with Plastic Free North Devon?
We have collaborated with them as they are a local charity vitally encouraging plastic to be removed from our community and beyond. Since our program we have continued to support and be interested in the charity. This is an absolutely exciting opportunity to take part in and we can’t wait to encourage others to support them and us.
On Saturday 24th of April we will be taking over Plastic Free North Devon’s social media and participating in at least 3 plastic pick-ups each across the region! We will be posting stories and posts over on their instagram throughout the day and we hope to gather as much support as possible with other people joining us in our plastic removing efforts and using less plastic at home.
Our Group
I'm Megan, Beth in the group is my twin and I am the current group leader. I study A Level Textiles and English Literature and Business Btec. I will hopefully be going to uni to do charity development next year and I really want to work in events fundraising when I'm older. I have previously renovated a garden at a local care home and planned a then cancelled promotion video for K9 focus within my work with NCS. I also am a young ambassador for Children’s Hospice South West.
My name’s Abbie and I’m currently studying A level Geography, Psychology, Biology and Maths. I took part in the NCS autumn program as the summer program was cancelled due to the pandemic. This means this is my first experience doing a project like this with NCS. As well as this local action group, I am also part of girl guiding and am working towards my Gold Edinburgh’s Award.
………..
We (PFND) cant wait to see what the girls come up with and what they collect and super excited to be sharing our platform with them!
