Do you want to improve your mental health and wellbeing?✅

Do you want to get involved in something locally and give back to your community?✅

Do you want to add strength to your university/ college/ job application with volunteering experiences?✅

Well…that’s where we can help you!
We've got lots of exciting education projects going on and we're on the lookout for awesome volunteers to join us!

The Ocean Explorer Academy (OEA) is amazing; we take (lower secondary) students to explore and connect with nature, learn about environmental issues and take positive action.  We explore beaches, rockpools, woodlands and we get hands-on experience of practical conservation, with rangers from the National Trust, Croyde beach team and North Devon Coast National Landscapes (formerly AONB).  We link students with local opportunities, to enhance their understanding of how they can gain experience and forge a pathway to work in nature conservation.

OEA volunteers directly support students in their exploration during the sessions, whilst learning and sharing their knowledge.  Previous brilliant Ocean Explorer volunteers have even been snapped up by our delivery partners and gained employment, so it's a great experience for budding conservationists and environmentalists!  One session might involve photographing and ID-ing forest foliage, another might include creating sound maps and next time we might be wading in wellies, meeting crabs and ID-ing shark species from their egg-cases.  We use citizen science apps wherever possible to ensure our sessions positively contribute to scientific understanding and wider conservation projects.

Additionally, we have lots of education and community groups desperate for outreach visits, so we'd also love to have a group of Plastic Free North Devon ambassadors who thrive presenting, to visit schools, brownies, scouts and other community groups.  We have presentations and resources including VR headsets.

So, there are lots of fun and rewarding options and we hope to be welcoming you to the PFND education family soon - there's no time like the present!
